Matsue Castle, a National Treasure, is a symbol of the city. Choose between exploring its surviving castle keep and strolling around the castle grounds, or combine both to suit your day.

Sights

Start with the castle keep

The keep survives from the Edo period and is a National Treasure. Take in both its exterior and the structure inside. Shoes must be removed when entering, so footwear that is easy to take off is useful.

Leave time for the surroundings

Before or after entering the keep, enjoy the moat and castle-town scenery. Admission fees and visiting hours differ between entering the keep and walking around the main enclosure.
