Recommended sights

Walk from Wakasa Station to Kariya-dori and Kura-dori. Visiting Onigajo Castle Ruins involves a hillside walk; Iwayado and Hibiki no Mori require trips in different directions.

1Wakasa Station

The terminus of the Wakasa Railway retains a wooden station building, turntable and water tower. Explore its railway heritage, then walk to Kariya-dori and Kura-dori. Steam locomotive activities and public viewings are separate events from regular train services. Follow the signs and staff guidance on platforms and railway grounds.

Hibiki no Mori, the Mount Hyono nature center, introduces local wildlife and landscapes through exhibits and activities. It lies in the mountains east of town. Some activities require reservations or have participation conditions. Plan hiking and winter outdoor activities around the weather.
