Exploring the Sanbe Highlands

Choose a base for the scenery you want

Choose an area to suit your plans: Nishi-no-hara for grasslands, or Kita-no-hara to combine with the nature museum. If visiting several highland areas, include travel between them in your itinerary.

Separate highland walks from summit hikes

Spending time in the highlands and climbing to a summit require different amounts of time and preparation. Check lift and road conditions too, and choose an activity suited to the weather.

Himenogaike Pond and the museum at Kita-no-hara, the Nishi-no-hara grasslands and the Higashi-no-hara lift are separate places. Check current lift opening dates and winter road conditions; do not plan the whole mountain as one short walk.
