Your first Iwami Kagura performance

Start with the type of performance

For a shorter visit, consider a regular show introducing key pieces or commentary. Shrine offerings are local festivals, while hall events offer performances by several troupes. The purpose and duration vary even within Iwami Kagura.

Check each venue's fees and reservations

Booking and admission rules differ. Reservations are the norm for Yunotsu Onsen Night Kagura and are recommended at Tane Kagura Denshokan in Sanbe. Check availability, fees, children's admission and reception details with the organiser for your date.

Check how to enjoy each venue

Treat shrine offerings as religious festivals and follow local guidance. Photography and costume experiences vary by show; ask rather than assuming they are available freely. For longer performances, plan your stay around the pieces you want to see and your journey back.

Choose dates from events and official schedules

Check the date, venue, troupe and booking rules together. Do not infer a future date from an old listing. Consult the latest schedule and the organiser's cancellation or change notices before setting out.

Combine kagura with onsen and town walks

In Yunotsu and Sanbe, choose performances alongside bathing or an overnight stay. The venue and your inn may be separate, so check return transport for evening shows. Leave enough time after daytime sightseeing to arrive for reception.
