Shimane Art Museum has a nursing room, a children's library and stroller loans. Its morning Family Time welcomes visits with children. Plan exhibition viewing and time by the lake separately, and check opening hours and conditions for your date.

Iwami: plan a day at the aquarium

Aquas has nursing rooms and a children's room. Strollers are limited and cannot be reserved. As checked on 14 October 2026, beluga performances are suspended, but you can still see belugas in the pools. Check the animals and day's programme before visiting.

Choose manageable shrine and town walks

For Izumo Taisha or an onsen town, plan rest stops around the amount of walking. Do not assume the sea or lake is in the same walkable area; check local transport and weather. Ask each facility about age, accompaniment and booking conditions for bathing or activities.

Plan eastern and western Shimane separately

Choose destinations around each base instead of packing Matsue, Izumo and Iwami into one short circuit. Check return services and onward travel from stations, with meals and breaks around longer journeys. Plan Oki as a separate trip by ferry or plane.
